Emotional First Aid
You put a bandage on a cut or take antibiotics to treat an infection, right? No questions asked. In fact, questions would be asked if you didn’t apply first aid when necessary.
So why isn’t the same true for our mental health? We are expected to just “get over” psychological wounds — when as anyone who’s ever ruminated over rejection or agonized over a failure knows only too well, emotional injuries can be just as crippling as physical ones
At Wellbeing Center, we offer you Emotional First Aid, a special kind of first aid for your mental health.
Physical pain is the body’s way of telling us that something is wrong. This goes for emotional pain as well. If you experienced a rejection, failure or some other life tribulation that you just can’t get over, then you need to pay attention to that emotional injury. Believe it or not, it won’t go away if you simply ignore it. Psychological wounds often manifest as physical symptoms such as headaches and illnesses.
Reaching out to your practitioner for support and finding additional ways to relieve this pain will help you get out all those nasty feelings. These ways will be based on:
- Monitoring and protecting your self-esteem.
- Being gentle and compassionate with yourself.
- Taking over negative thoughts and disrupt them with positive healing.
- Not letting excessive guilt linger.
- Finding meaning in loss.
- Redefining your view of failure.
- Redirecting your gut reaction when you fail.
- Healing yourself from rumination.
At Wellbeing Center, we lay you out many useful ways to reboot your emotional health and help you gain a healthier and more positive outlook on your life … starting right now.
Yes, practicing emotional hygiene takes a little time and effort, but it will seriously elevate your entire quality of life. We promise.
